After arriving in New York we found an awesome campsite, Interlake RV park, and were ready to call that home for a little while, but as plans fell through we picked up our RV and went to Virginia.
Front Royal, VA was a beautiful little historic town. We really enjoyed our stay at North Fork RV Resort, and before we blinked, the job was over and Rich had a month off before the next one. Before leaving the area we went and visited Washington D.C! It was a quick 1 hr drive and absolutely awe-inspiring! Wish we could have spent more time to see all of the museums, but we decided it was best to enjoy the ocean!
We first went to Myrtle Beach State Park. What a place! Beautiful views, a straight path from the campground to the ocean, extremely pet friendly, and above all it was quiet and relaxing.
Unfortunately, since we booked too late they only had two nights available, so after that we decided to go to Hilon Head Island. Rich had temporarily lived there for a few summers so he was excited to show me his "old stomping grounds";)
I LOVED it there! First let me tell you about the RV park, Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort. You pull in and are automatically given a golf cart to find the spot you want to stay in. They had two pools, a restaurant, a water sports equipment rental right on site, laundry and an exercise room (it definitely needed work, but I loved it!). I was in heaven! We enjoyed every bit of the island by kayaking, going to the beach, enjoying the "night life", happy hour specials, fishing, seeing dolphins daily, walking the nature trails, and the best part is that the whole island is super dog friendly!
Rich was able to catch up with old friends, and we met new full time RVer friends who we were delighted to hear about their journey thus far!
Our next stop was in Charlotte, NC to visit Rich's family. Our first RV park, Cane Creek campground, was very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed our week long stay and had a great time having everyone over for bbq and games.
The second one we stayed at, Camp Wilderness at Carowinds, was right next to an amusement and water park called Carowinds. We enjoyed two days at the parks with his dad and had a blast! It was great to spend time with his whole family!!
As our vacation was coming to an end we started to make our way back to Nebraska for Rich's weld test. We stopped in Nashville, TN for a night (they have an extensive night life!),
and then stopped for four days in Greers Ferry, Arkansas to visit a friend and celebrate memorial weekend. The lake was very relaxing, and we enjoyed our time there with great company!
As we made our way to Nebraska, we found one of the best parks yet, Fremont State Recreation Area. Our site had a sandy beach right to the lake and the dogs were non stop swimming. Perfect way to wrap up our tour of the East and end our vacation back where we started.
We've just celebrated our 1st year in the RV, and we couldn't be happier!! We have overcome so many obstacles, become closer than ever, have given our dogs so much freedom, and have had the opportunity to enjoy and visit so many parts of this country that wouldn't of happened without the RV. We love living minimally and actually have gotten rid of even more things as we have figured out what is and isn't necessary. We look forward to many more years in the RV and encourage everyone to give it a try! You won't regret it:)
