Upgrading furniture
After a very unfortunate event, a.k.a. Jasper decided to turn our old couch into a toy, we needed to upgrade our furniture. In the past Jasper has had a hard time with fabric couches, and if it even has a small tear, he will start destroying it while we are away. What he does like and doesn't tear apart is leather.
We started exploring RV furniture and not only were the prices outrageous, they didn't seem as comfortable as normal household furniture. However, when we looked at the measurements of our old couch, there was nothing that was that small, so we decided to switch some things around. After moving the dinning room table to where the recliners were we had plenty of room to upgrade the couch and get a newer recliner.
It took us a couple visits to the furniture store to decide which one we wanted, but when we found the one, we were extremely happy with getting rid of the old and bringing on the new furniture. The only downside is that it isn't a pull out sofa, but we rarely have visitors that stay the night. if they do want to spend the night, the couch is extremely comfortable:)
It was a bit tricky getting the old furniture out and the new furniture in through the RV door, but when we had it all set up we couldn't be happier!! We get to enjoy a nice view while we eat, and we have spent more time in the living room area than ever before! We were a bit worried about the weight on the slide-outs, but after our recent move to Colorado, everything worked great.
So if you are shopping for RV furniture, I recommend broadening your search to normal furniture as well. Just make sure you triple check your measurements, and it's ALOT cheaper!!
Happy Rving:)

Ticks!
Every dog owners worst nightmare: ticks! These horrible, filthy, and annoying creatures have become a nuisance for the dogs and me! For some reason this year they have been worse than ever, and since I try to keep my dogs as healthy as possible, I avoid using the harsh chemicals that are used as an anti flea and tick prevention. Every part of the country has had a different kind of tick that I never even knew existed, and by far Arkansas had the craziest amount of ticks I had ever seen!! They had the smallest ticks that it was hard to know if it was a tick or not.
I've done extensive research on natural methods to help keep my dogs safe from the diseases they carry, and I am excited to share with my fellow travelers and dog lovers!
First and foremost, you have to check for ticks often. My nails have been my most useful tool in this process. I check Jasper and Brody at least 20 times/day( no exaggeration!). If you remove the tick from the dog within 24hrs, it will reduce the chances of the tick transmitting Lyme disease. Once I find these disgusting parasites I have become quite good at removing them with my nails, don't forget the head!, but in the beginning I used a tick stick. I have also used tweezers, but I have found them to tear the tick in half easily and createing a bigger problem to remove the head.
Once I've removed the tick, I use tea tree oil right on the spot that it was. Tea tree oil is known for its topical antiseptic and anti-fungal treatment or infection-reducing benefits. It also has antibiotic properties.
When I know we will be outside for a long period of time, I will spray the boys with a natural flea and tick defense. I also give them baths frequently with natural flea and tick shampoo. I find this to be extremely helpful but the effects don't last long. You have to continuously apply or bathe them frequently.
Lastly, I watch my dogs a lot. If I notice any sign that they are acting different it's a quick trip to the vet. I've had them checked for Lyme disease every time we go to vet just to be certain. Also, don't forget to check yourselves! Sadly in Arkansas I found a tick on myself and Rich, but I removed it right away and applied the tea tree oil.
If you have any other tips I would love to hear them! Safe camping and enjoy your summer:)

Tour of the East!
On our way to open new possibilities we left Nebraska and headed to New York. Along the way we stopped at Rose Point RV Park in Pittsburgh, PA, which had the most amazing food I've ever experienced and didn't expect it! You must try their perogies!!!
After arriving in New York we found an awesome campsite, Interlake RV park, and were ready to call that home for a little while, but as plans fell through we picked up our RV and went to Virginia.
Front Royal, VA was a beautiful little historic town. We really enjoyed our stay at North Fork RV Resort, and before we blinked, the job was over and Rich had a month off before the next one. Before leaving the area we went and visited Washington D.C! It was a quick 1 hr drive and absolutely awe-inspiring! Wish we could have spent more time to see all of the museums, but we decided it was best to enjoy the ocean!
We first went to Myrtle Beach State Park. What a place! Beautiful views, a straight path from the campground to the ocean, extremely pet friendly, and above all it was quiet and relaxing.
Unfortunately, since we booked too late they only had two nights available, so after that we decided to go to Hilon Head Island. Rich had temporarily lived there for a few summers so he was excited to show me his "old stomping grounds";)
I LOVED it there! First let me tell you about the RV park, Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort. You pull in and are automatically given a golf cart to find the spot you want to stay in. They had two pools, a restaurant, a water sports equipment rental right on site, laundry and an exercise room (it definitely needed work, but I loved it!). I was in heaven! We enjoyed every bit of the island by kayaking, going to the beach, enjoying the "night life", happy hour specials, fishing, seeing dolphins daily, walking the nature trails, and the best part is that the whole island is super dog friendly!
Rich was able to catch up with old friends, and we met new full time RVer friends who we were delighted to hear about their journey thus far!
Our next stop was in Charlotte, NC to visit Rich's family. Our first RV park, Cane Creek campground, was very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed our week long stay and had a great time having everyone over for bbq and games.
The second one we stayed at, Camp Wilderness at Carowinds, was right next to an amusement and water park called Carowinds. We enjoyed two days at the parks with his dad and had a blast! It was great to spend time with his whole family!!
As our vacation was coming to an end we started to make our way back to Nebraska for Rich's weld test. We stopped in Nashville, TN for a night (they have an extensive night life!),
and then stopped for four days in Greers Ferry, Arkansas to visit a friend and celebrate memorial weekend. The lake was very relaxing, and we enjoyed our time there with great company!
As we made our way to Nebraska, we found one of the best parks yet, Fremont State Recreation Area. Our site had a sandy beach right to the lake and the dogs were non stop swimming. Perfect way to wrap up our tour of the East and end our vacation back where we started.
We've just celebrated our 1st year in the RV, and we couldn't be happier!! We have overcome so many obstacles, become closer than ever, have given our dogs so much freedom, and have had the opportunity to enjoy and visit so many parts of this country that wouldn't of happened without the RV. We love living minimally and actually have gotten rid of even more things as we have figured out what is and isn't necessary. We look forward to many more years in the RV and encourage everyone to give it a try! You won't regret it:)
If you have any questions about any of the RV parks we've stayed at, please feel free to ask at the comment area. Also, for more pictures and up to date info of our RV life experience you can follow me on Instagram: rvlifewithtwodogs
